It tells the story of Rachel Vinrace, a young woman who has previously led a sheltered. As I read the story, the title of the story became a metaphor for Rachel's inner journey. Well, er, actually I kept reading and it turns out the stranger is horrible and takes Stax on said adventure by force. This is a story about a young English woman, Rachel, on a sea voyage from London, to a South American coastal city of Santa Marina.
